Air travel across the country has been disrupted throughout Friday due to adverse weather conditions.
According to officials at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), both domestic and international flights have been affected.
The flights to Bhadrapur, Simara, Bharatpur, Pokhara, and Surkhet have been cancelled for the day following continuous downpour across the country since Friday morning, said Rinji Sherpa, the spokesperson for Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
“Flights on the Kathmandu-Biratnagar route resumed operations at 3:00 PM,” Sherpa told RSS, the state-owned news agency.
International passengers too faced delays earlier in the day as two flights—Indigo Airlines from New Delhi and a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok — were held for approximately an hour before landing.
However, the TIA has reported that international flights operations returned to normal in the evening.
“Air travel has been affected due to poor visibility from continuous rain," Sherpa stated. "Only flights supported by IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) are operational.”
No mountain flights were conducted from TIA on the day.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology issued a caution on Wednesday, September 25, for heavy rainfall across the country from Thursday to Sunday.
