The Food Management and Trading Company Limited (FMTCL), Bajura has said that the district locals will not face food shortage this festival season, with the availability of enough rice in its depots.
While the Martadi branch has 4,00 tonnes of rice in its stock, the Kolti branch at Budhinanda Municipality in the district’s Northeastern region has 2,30 tonnes, according to Umesh Bhandari, Chief of the FMTCL branch office in Martadi.
"There used to be an acute shortage of food grains in the district during the festivals due to the closure of the roads in the monsoon period,” Bhandari told RSS, the state-owned news agency. “This year, the contractors, hired for transporting the food grains, have delivered them on time. So, there is less chance of food shortage this time.”
The 4,00 tonnes of rice in Martadi include 2,10.6 tonnes of Aruwa Coarse, 1,68.5 tonnes of Aruwa Sona Moderate Grain and 22.5 tonnes of Jira Masino varieties.
Similarly, the 2,30 tonnes of rice at the Kolti depot include 1,96.9 tonnes of Aruwa Coarse, 20.2 tonnes of Sona Mansuli and 15.1 tonnes of Jira Masino varieties.
The FMTCL also brought into operation the fair price shops at Martadi and Kolti from Monday, September 23, targeting the Dasahin and Tihar festivals. Dashain, this year, begins on October 3.
Customers would be given a Rs 5 discount on a kilogram of rice at the fair price shops, Bhandari said.
