The Tribhuvan University (TU) on Monday, September 23, decided to prohibit students from bringing digital devices such as mobile phones and smartwatches at the exam halls.
The move is aimed at restricting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in exams, according to the university. The student will be sent off from the exam hall if found cheating by using the AI.
A meeting of the university’s Exam Reform Committee chaired by Rector Khadga KC made the decision to “discourage the misuse of technology amid an increase in cheating cases”.
Overdependence on technology has negatively affected the reading culture, the meeting concluded.
The Monday’s meeting also decided to grant students, who are yet to complete their academic programmes under the yearly system since 2001 and semester system since 2012, an opportunity to appear in chance exams.
