The Department of Tourism has granted permits to 14 climbers for the autumn ascent of Mt Dhaulagiri, located in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4. At 8,167 meters, Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world.
All 14 climbers, who are male, have received permission for the expedition. The Department collected over Rs 1.6 million in royalty from the group.
In comparison, during the previous summer season, three groups—comprising 22 male and eight female climbers—received permits for the ascent, generating Rs 7.1 million in royalty.
Hari Prasad Tilija, a ward member of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 and a hotelier at the base camp, reported that climbers, including Sherpa guides, porters, and assistants, have begun arriving at the base camp after receiving their permits.
According to the latest data from the Department of Tourism, 275 climbers from 54 countries, including 88 women, have received permits for the current climbing season, contributing over Rs 45 million in revenue.
Each foreign climber is required to pay USD 900 for a permit to climb peaks over 8,000 meters.
Apart from Dhaulagiri, other prominent snow-capped peaks preferred by climbers in the autumn season include Putha Himchuli, Annapurna IV, Pungi, Kumbhakarna, Araniko Chuli, Api, and Makalu. -- RSS
